I need some suggestion on traveling to Grand Canyon?

I plan on going to Grand Canyon from Vegas....what is the best way to get there? I know they offer helicopter ride but the ride is only to get to the bottom right? Is it possible for me to drive there from vegas for sightseeing? How long is the drive? Thanks!
