Should i get a 30-06 or 7mm?

I have narrowed it down and im leaning between a 30-06 or a 7mm. right now i just want an all around rifle. i want to be able to hunt all around for i.e. from a big ole oregon elk to a little florida deer. From open terrain to up in the hills with some wooded areas, across. possibly across a canyon. i also have question about 7mm is it true that if you happen to clip a twig will it just totally throw it off.
